Make The Switch

Why Charge at Home?

If you're driving electric — or about to — a proper wallbox installed by a qualified EV charger installer changes how you run the car. Here's why so many Brighton & Hove drivers stop relying on public chargers:

  • Charge overnight on cheaper tariffsOff-peak EV tariffs are built around overnight charging — plug in at bedtime, wake up to a full battery.
  • Far faster than a 3-pin plugA dedicated charge point cuts charging times dramatically — and household 3-pin sockets were never designed for continuous EV loads.
  • Smart scheduling from an appSet charging windows, track what you've used and adjust it all from your phone.
  • A sought-after feature for your propertyHome charging is increasingly on buyers' wish lists across Brighton & Hove.

Things We Check Before Quoting

Housing in Brighton & Hove is nothing if not varied — Victorian terraces, Regency conversions, seafront flats in Hove — so we look properly before we price anything.

  • Your supply's headroomWhether your main fuse and incoming supply can comfortably take a charger on top of everything else you run.
  • Where the charger can mountRelative to where you actually park, so the cable reaches without stretching or trailing.
  • The cable route from the boardThe tidiest path from your consumer unit to the charger position — suspended floors and solid walls included.
  • Whether your consumer unit needs upgrading firstSome older boards need replacing before a new circuit can be added — see our fusebox replacement service.
  • Whether it's worth combining with a rewireIf a full home rewire is on the cards, a charger circuit is cheaper done together than retrofitted later.
One Simple Choice

Tethered or Untethered?

Tethered

The charging cable is permanently attached and coils on the unit — pull up, uncoil, plug in. The most convenient option when one EV charges at home most nights.

Untethered

A socketed unit with no fixed cable — you plug in your own. A neater look on the wall, and more flexible if you change cars or share the charger between two.

There's no wrong answer, and it doesn't change how the circuit itself is installed. We'll talk both options through at your survey and fit whichever suits how you drive.

What Brighton & Hove Drivers Say

★★★★★

"Really pleased with the charger install at our house in Hove. The cable run along the side wall is so neat you barely notice it, everything was left spotless, and the electrician stayed to walk me through the app and set up overnight charging before he left."
