Local Reviews

A Word From a Hassocks Homeowner

★★★★★

"We'd just bought a Victorian terrace a few minutes from Hassocks station and the survey flagged the wiring straight away. The team talked us through the options before we'd even exchanged, rewired the whole house before our furniture arrived, and added extra sockets for a home office while the floors were up. Calm, tidy and genuinely helpful."

The Firm Behind the Work

A settled, well-equipped team that understands older houses — and how much power a modern household actually draws.

About Brighton Rewire
The Way We Work

A Rewire Without the Upheaval

Worried a rewire means moving out? Most families never do.

A typical house rewire in Hassocks takes two to five days from start to finish — and the finish itself is never rushed.

It works because the planning happens before anyone lifts a floorboard, and because the electricians doing it have rewired houses like yours again and again.

Years of jobs throughout Hassocks and the surrounding county mean the odd quirk behind a wall rarely catches us out.

Plastering is included too. We fill and skim every chase we cut, so your walls are ready for paint once dry — and ready for the extra sockets a modern home genuinely needs.

Worth Checking

Telltale Signs the Wiring Is Past Its Best

Plenty of the Hassocks homes we inspect are fine for years yet. Some are not. If any of the symptoms below sound familiar, it's worth getting a proper opinion — quickly:

  • A dated fuse board without RCDsIf nothing trips when a fault happens, you're relying on luck. Modern boards cut the power in milliseconds. Old ones may not cut it at all.
  • Rubber- or cloth-insulated cablingStill hiding in some of the village's Victorian and interwar houses. The coating hardens with age, then crumbles. What's left behind is close to bare wire.
  • Circuits that trip for no obvious reasonRandom tripping that no one can pin to a single appliance usually means the wiring itself is the underlying problem.
  • Sockets that feel warm, switches that buzzHeat or noise at a faceplate points to a poor connection behind it — a risk that only grows as modern appliances demand more.
  • A poor EICR result across multiple circuitsOne or two C2 codes can be repaired in isolation. Several, spread through the house, usually make a full rewire the more economical answer.

Spotted just one symptom? A targeted repair may well be enough, and if so that's exactly what we'll recommend. Planning an EV charger or a new kitchen only raises the stakes — so it pays to know either way.

The Job, Done Properly

Everything Your Hassocks Rewire Includes

One quote, one complete job. A full rewire from us always covers the lot:

  • All power and lighting circuits replaced throughout
  • A modern consumer unit protected by RCBOs
  • Surge protection for today's sensitive electronics
  • Earthing and bonding upgraded to BS 7671
  • Interlinked mains-powered smoke and heat detection
  • Fresh sockets and switches in every room
  • All chases plastered smooth and paint-ready
  • Your Electrical Installation Certificate on completion
Living Through It

Can You Stay in the House?

Almost always, yes. A typical rewire here runs for 2–5 days. Smaller flats finish sooner. Bigger houses, or ones with solid floors and tricky cable routes, take a touch longer — and we confirm the expected schedule before anyone starts.

We work one room at a time and tell you each morning where we'll be. Your kitchen and a bathroom stay usable for all but a single day, and the power only goes off briefly while the new consumer unit goes in.

The walls are made good as standard: every chase filled and skimmed by us, leaving just the decorating once the plaster has dried. Planning an EV charger or kitchen refit? Say so now and we'll wire for it, so the walls never need opening twice.

What We Offer

Two Routes to Safer Electrics in Hassocks

Full house rewiring is the heart of what we do around Hassocks, from station-side terraces to family semis on the village edge. Every job ends with a proper tidy-up. Not a building site.

For most local homeowners, the decision comes down to one of two options.

The Complete Rewire

When cabling has genuinely reached the end of its life — shocks from switches, a damaged board, circuits failing inspection — a whole-house rewire is the lasting answer. Every circuit is renewed, a new consumer unit fitted, and sockets, switches and lighting replaced, with testing at each stage. It's also the moment to think ahead: extra kitchen capacity, EV-ready supply, sockets where the home office actually sits.

The Targeted Upgrade

Sometimes the full job simply isn't needed. A wiring upgrade renews the weakest parts of an installation — ageing cable runs, earthing, bonding or the consumer unit itself — and leaves healthy circuits alone. Our Part P registered electricians inspect before recommending anything. If the system really is finished, we'll say so plainly rather than patch over it.

Explore upgrade options

Caught between the two? Where cabling tests healthy, a new consumer unit on its own can transform an older Hassocks installation, and where only part of the house is tired we'll price a partial rewire instead. The survey decides. Never a sales script.

Common Questions

Questions Hassocks Homeowners Ask Us

What should I budget for rewiring my Hassocks house?

It depends on the property. Bedrooms, circuit count, floor construction and your choice of fittings all move the figure — as do future-proofing extras like EV-ready wiring or additional kitchen circuits. For a quick, no-obligation starting point, try our rewire cost calculator; a free home survey then fixes the figure in writing.

How many days should I set aside for the work?

Between two and five for most Hassocks properties. A one-bedroom flat is usually toward the shorter end, while a large or awkwardly built house takes longer. We confirm the expected schedule alongside your quote, so you can plan family life around it.

I'm just outside Hassocks — will you still come out?

We will. Keymer, Ditchling, Hurstpierpoint, Clayton and Burgess Hill are all regular stops for our vans, along with the rest of this corner of West Sussex. Ring us and we'll confirm your address is covered.

What state are my walls left in afterwards?

Plastered and ready for paint. Filling and skimming every chase is part of our standard job, never an optional extra. All we ask is a little patience with the decorating — new plaster needs a few weeks to dry before it will hold a mist coat.

Is your rewiring work certified under Part P?

Yes. Our electricians are Part P registered and every installation is tested and certified to BS 7671, the 18th Edition. You receive an Electrical Installation Certificate — the document your solicitor, insurer or letting agent will want — and wiring ready for modern demands, from induction cooking to car charging.

About the Area

Rewiring Homes in Hassocks

Hassocks sits at the foot of the South Downs, tucked below the twin Clayton windmills — Jack and Jill — that crown the ridge just to the north. The village really took shape around the railway: when the London to Brighton line came through in the 1840s, a Victorian railway settlement grew up around the station, later filled out with interwar semis, bungalows and postwar estates spreading toward Keymer and Ditchling. A good deal of that housing is now well past its first wiring, with ageing boards, dated cabling and earthing that no longer meets current standards — exactly the kind of West Sussex property our Hassocks rewires are built around.
