A full rewire moves through the same broad stages whether you're in a Brighton terrace, a Hove flat or a Portslade semi — typically taking 2–5 days depending on the property. Here's what's actually happening at each one.
Our team arrives early and spends the first few minutes walking the property with you, confirming exactly where every socket, switch and light is going before anything gets touched.
Before any old wiring is disturbed, we isolate the existing supply using a proper safe isolation procedure, then rig up a temporary supply so tools, chargers and site lighting have power for the rest of the job.
Most homes carry their main cabling under the floor, so we lift the boards we need and plan a sensible path through. Where cable has to run through a wall instead, a chasing tool cuts a clean, straight channel into the brickwork.
With the routes open, we run cable to every circuit agreed at the planning stage — sockets, lighting, smoke alarms and anything else on the spec — each one sized correctly so it can carry its load safely.
Once the cable is in, we clear the heavy tools out, sweep up, and leave the property reasonably tidy before moving into the next stage — a natural pause point in a longer job.
Back boxes go in behind every socket, switch and fitting, and the cable feeding them is protected with metal capping — a small detail that keeps the finish tidy and stops the cable getting damaged by other trades later on.
Any brickwork opened up to run cable gets plastered back over. We usually keep working on other second-fix jobs in parallel so the plastering doesn't hold the rest of the project up.
Every accessory gets wired in and terminated properly, and everything is connected back to a new consumer unit — the part that lets you isolate individual circuits and protects the whole installation if a fault occurs.
Before anything is energised, we run through a set of checks looking for anything that shouldn't be there — exposed conductors, loose connections — so there are no surprises once the power's live.
Circuit by circuit, the new installation goes live. We test each one properly as we go — sockets, lights, everything — to confirm it's all doing what it should.
A rewire is a dusty job, so we use dust extraction where we can throughout, then do a proper clean before we leave — floors, skirtings and surfaces included.
As a Part P registered electrician, we notify the work as required and you'll receive an Electrical Installation Certificate confirming it meets current wiring regulations, along with a quick walkthrough of your new consumer unit before we head off.
