What Uckfield Clients Say About Their Rewire

★★★★★

"Our place is a Victorian terrace just off the high street and it needed the lot doing. The team were honest about what actually mattered and what didn't, worked around us a room at a time, and left every wall they'd chased into ready to paint. No complaints at all."

— Ross, Uckfield

About Brighton Rewire
The Way We Work

How We Rewire an Uckfield Home

A rewire doesn't have to turn the whole house upside down.

Most Uckfield homes are fully rewired in two to five days, and never at the expense of cost, safety or the finished result.

That pace comes down to planning the work properly up front and fielding an experienced team who have done this hundreds of times over.

After years spent working across Uckfield and East Sussex, there aren't many layouts or hidden surprises we haven't already run into.

And because making good is part of what we do — plaster repairs and skim included — the finish ends up matching the workmanship tucked away behind it.

Worth Checking

Does Your Uckfield Home Need Rewiring?

A fair few of the homes we survey in Uckfield don't need a full rewire at all — but a small number of warning signs are always worth taking seriously. These are the ones we never wave through:

  • An old fuse box with no RCD protectionOlder boards often carry no trip protection whatsoever on the socket or lighting circuits, which lands well short of today's standards.
  • Rubber or fabric-covered cable behind the plasterA common find in Uckfield's older cottages and terraces — the insulation turns brittle over the years and cracks the moment it is disturbed.
  • Tripping that no one can pin downIf an inspection can't tie repeated trips back to a single circuit, the installation as a whole is usually trying to tell you something.
  • Warm sockets, buzzing switches or scorch marksHeat at the faceplate nearly always comes back to loose or overloaded connections sitting behind it.
  • An EICR flagging C1 or C2 codes on several circuitsOnce you are past two or three "potentially dangerous" codes, putting them right one by one tends to cost more than rewiring the lot.

Recognise just one of these? Often an inspection and a little focused work is all an Uckfield home needs — and either way, you will get a straight answer from us.

The Job, Done Properly

What a Full Rewire in Uckfield Covers

When we rewire an Uckfield home, the quote covers the whole job — not a trimmed-back version of it:

  • Every circuit renewed, from the board outward
  • A new 18th Edition consumer unit with RCBOs
  • Surge protection built into the board
  • Earthing and bonding brought up to BS 7671
  • Mains-wired smoke and heat alarms
  • New sockets and switches throughout
  • Chases filled and skimmed, ready to decorate
  • An Electrical Installation Certificate at the end
Living Through It

How Long Will It Take?

Most house rewires we carry out in Uckfield are done in 2–5 days — the exact timescale depends on the size of the property, how the cables can be routed, and what turns up once the floorboards come up. A compact flat sits at the quick end; a larger or three-storey house at the longer one.

We work through the house one room at a time, so most families stay put while it happens. The kitchen and at least one bathroom remain usable for all but a day, and the power is only fully off while the new consumer unit goes in.

Making good is built into the job, not tacked on: every chase we cut is filled and skim-coated. The only thing that follows on afterwards is decorating, once the fresh plaster has had time to dry.

What We Offer

Rewiring Services in Uckfield

Whether it is a period cottage in the old town or a postwar semi on the outskirts, a full house rewire sits at the core of what we do in Uckfield — and we tidy up properly once the work is done, so the upheaval is kept to a minimum.

Here are the main options we offer local homeowners.

Full Home Rewire

Our main line of work is the full rewiring service for homes across Uckfield and East Sussex. A full rewire is the sensible move when you are dealing with faulty wiring, the occasional shock off a switch, a damaged fuse board, or cabling that has simply aged out. We replace every circuit, test and fault-find as we go, fit a new consumer unit and refresh the sockets, switches and lighting throughout.

Wiring Upgrade

Not every job calls for the full works. A wiring upgrade replaces tired stretches of cabling or brings your earthing, bonding and consumer unit up to standard, without the reach of a complete rewire. Our Part P registered electricians look over the existing installation first, and if it turns out the system is genuinely on its last legs, we'll walk you through a full rewire rather than patch over it.

Explore upgrade options

Somewhere between the two? If the cabling itself is still sound, a consumer unit upgrade on its own can bring an older Uckfield fuse box up to current standards — and where an inspection shows only part of the house needs work, we will quote a partial rewire rather than steer you toward a full one. The honest answer comes out of a survey, not a sales pitch.

Common Questions

Uckfield Rewiring — Your Questions

How much does it cost to rewire a house in Uckfield?

Every property is different, so we price from a survey rather than a fixed rate card. The main factors are the number of bedrooms and circuits, how easily the cables can be run, and the fittings you choose. Our online rewire cost calculator gives a realistic ballpark for Uckfield flats and houses in under a minute, and a free survey turns that into a fixed quote.

How long will a rewire take in my Uckfield home?

Most rewires here are finished in 2–5 days, depending on the property — a compact flat sits at the quick end, while a larger or three-storey house, or one with solid floors and tight access, takes a little longer. You will get a day-by-day programme with your quote so you know exactly what to expect.

Do you cover the villages around Uckfield?

Yes — alongside Uckfield itself we regularly work in the surrounding areas, including Buxted, Framfield, Maresfield, Ridgewood and Little Horsted. If you are anywhere in this part of East Sussex, give us a call and we will confirm we can reach you.

Will you make good the walls after the rewire?

Yes. Every chase we cut is filled and skim-coated as part of the job, ready for decorating. The one thing we leave to you is the painting itself — fresh plaster needs a couple of weeks to dry before it will take a mist coat, so decoration follows once it has dried out.

Are you Part P registered?

Yes — every rewire is carried out by Part P registered electricians and tested and signed off to BS 7671 (the 18th Edition). You receive an Electrical Installation Certificate at handover, which is the document solicitors, insurers and letting agents ask for, and the starting point for any future EICR.

About the Area

Rewiring Homes in Uckfield

Uckfield is a Wealden market town that grew up along the River Uck, and its sloping Victorian high street — memorably swamped by the floods of October 2000 — still forms the heart of the place. A couple of miles to the west sits Piltdown, forever tied to the infamous "Piltdown Man" fossil hoax, exposed as a forgery in 1953. The town's housing runs from period and listed cottages and Victorian and Edwardian terraces near the centre out to interwar semis, bungalows and the modern estates that have spread since the war. Much of that older stock is now well past the age at which its wiring should be inspected or renewed — exactly the kind of home our Uckfield rewires are built around.
